Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DEVICE AND PRODUCTION OF INSULATING FILM USED THEREIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06202092
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide the liquid crystal device provided with a metallic insulating film which is less affected by spontaneous polarization and has a high transmittance, high hardness and high breakdown voltage by specifying the volumetric resistivity of metallic oxidized film to a specific range.

CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal device consists of two sheets of glass substrates 1 which are disposed to face each other, transparent electrodes 2 which are provided on their opposite surface, metallic electrodes 3 engaged with one side with the transparent electrodes 2, the insulating films 4a, oriented films 4b and a liquid crystal 5. The volumetric resistivity of the insulating films 4a is set at the 5×106 to 108Ω.cm range and the transmittance in a visible light region is set in an 80% to 95% range. The insulating films 4a are formed by applying a soln. mixture composed of Ti and Si at 1:1 ratio by offset printing on the glass materials 1 formed with the metallic electrodes 3 and drying the coating for a prescribed period of time at a prescribed temp. The coating is thereafter irradiated with UV light by using a low-pressure mercury lamp as UV irradiating means and is then fired in an oven for a prescribed period of time for a prescribed period at a prescribed temp. to obtain the insulating films.
