To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus, a method of driving the liquid crystal display apparatus, and an electronic apparatus which are capable of applying an optimal voltage corresponding to the level of a video signal between a pixel electrode and a counter electrode of a liquid crystal capacitor in accordance with the varying luminance of a backlight unit.
The luminance of a backlight unit is detected by a detection unit. Under the control of a controller based on the detection result from the detection unit, the voltage applied between a pixel electrode provided for each pixel and a counter electrode shared by the pixels is controlled according to the detection result of the luminance of the backlight unit. Thereby, an optimal voltage corresponding to the level of a video signal is applied between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode in accordance with the varying luminance of the backlight unit.
