Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY BODY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS56168636
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. crystal display body having no memory effect over a large cell thickness and a wide helical pitch range by diagonally vapor-depositing an inorg. compound on one side of one substrate and rubbing one side of the other substrate.

CONSTITUTION: SiO2 is vapor-deposited on a lower substrate 12 at 85° angle to the normal line of the substrate from the direction of the arrow 14 in about 150 thickness. An upper substrate 13 is coated with polyimide and rubbed with cotton cloth in the direction of an arrow 15. A liq. crystal composition consisting of a nematic liq. crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy, a cholesteric liq. crystal contg. the optically active substance of formula I, and the dichromatic disazo dye of formula II is held between the substrates 12, 13. The liq. crystal molecules orient at about 5° tilt angle to the rubbed surface and at about 30° tilt angle to the deposited surface. Thus, a display body having no memory effect over a large cell thickness and a wide helical pitch range is obtd.
