PURPOSE: To make high-performance and economical multicells by providing injection ports for injection of liquid crystals from the circumferential edge side of substrates and applying effective means of preventing the creeping-around of liquid crystals.
CONSTITUTION: Two sheets of substrates formed with electrodes are opposed to each other, and a sealing material is interposed therebetween to form two cells. An injection port is made in each cell to permit injection of liquid crystals and the cells are sealed. Futher, a preventing member is formed on the side of the sealing material by using a silicone resin so that it reaches the side end part of at least one substrate and prevents the injection ports of the two adjacent cells from being communicated by the liquid crystals, after which the liquid crystals are injected through the injection ports respectively, whereby the multicells are obtained. As a result, the movement of the liquid crystals owing to capillarity in the minute gap in the outside circumferential edge part of two sheets of the substrates is prevented by the preventing member. A material which has a property of repelling the liquid crystal is desirable for the preventing member.
