Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guest-host type liquid crystal display element which can display with high contrast, and to provide a dichroic dye which has excellent chemical stability when dissolved in a liquid crystal material to give high display contrast and which gives little influences on the physical properties of the liquid crystal material.
SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element 1 consists of a pair of substrates 2, 3 disposed facing each other and having an electrode on each counter face, and a liquid crystal layer 8 which is held between the pair of substrates 2, 3 and contains a liquid crystal compd. and a dichroic dye having a skeleton of either fluorene or fluorenon.
