To provide a liquid crystal display device which is thin and has high viewing-angle control effect.
The liquid crystal display device is a vertical alignment ty pe liquid crystal display device, and includes a displaying pixel electrode 9A and a viewing-angle controlling pixel electrode 9B formed on a TFT array substrate, a pair of polarizing plates provided on external surface sides of the TFT array substrate and an opposite substrate, an alignment control structure 61 formed on the TFT array substrate, and an alignment control structure 62 provided on the opposite substrate. The alignment control structures 61 and 62 extend in directions parallel to the optical axes of the polarizing plates, and the extending directions are formed in the same way in displaying sub-pixels DR, DG and DB, and in a viewing-angle controlling sub-pixel DC. The displaying sub-pixels DR, DG and DB have phase difference layers formed on both the TFT array substrate and opposite substrate to perform image display in a circular polarization mode. At the same time, the viewing-angle controlling sub-pixel DC has no phase difference layer formed to perform image display in a linear polarization mode.
