Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a liquid crystal display device of an excellent visual angle characteristic and high contrast having liquid crystal regions where liquid crystal molecules are axisymmetrically aligned by each of picture element regions with the simple method.
SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is provided with striped projecting parts 36a on a lower substrate and striped projecting parts 36b on an upper substrate respectively in the regions exclusive of the picture element regions, by which these parts are intersected with each other to form combined grid-like wall structures. The liquid crystal molecules 42 have negative dielectric anisotropy. The liquid crystal molecules 42 are aligned perpendicularly to a pair of the substrates when voltage is not applied. The liquid crystal molecules 42 are axisymmetrically aligned by each of the regions (picture element regions) enclosed by the stripe walls when voltage is applied.
