PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display device which is bright and has high contrast and its manufacturing method.
SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display device provided with light shielding layers 2 and 18 on the upper part side and the lower part side of a switching element disposed in a matrix-shape respectively, any one or both of the light shielding layers 2 and 18 has (have) a shape having a slope part 181 so as to be projecting to the switching element.
