Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent a spacer from falling in the display area or on the display electrode of the simple matrix or active matrix liquid crystal display device and to eliminate deterioration in the display quality due to the presence of the spacer. CONSTITUTION:The orienting film on the display electrode 35 is charged up to the negative polarity and other areas are discharged through a gate line 31 and a drain line 41. When spacers which are charged up to the negative polarity are scattered, the spacers reaching the display area are repelled and arranged except in the display area since the orientation film in this area is charged to the negative polarity.
