Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel structure wherein satisfactory light shielding properties are secured in an outer peripheral part at a circumferential edge of a display area and manufacturing cost can be reduced without causing a display defect and display unevenness in the display area, in a liquid crystal display device having a color filter.
SOLUTION: The formation of a color filter 21 on a counter substrate 20 is performed not only in the display area D but also in the outer peripheral part E simultaneously to form color layers 21R', 21G' and 21B'. The forming patterns of the color layers 21R', 21G' and 21B' are different from the forming patterns of color layers 21R, 21G and 21B in the display area D and formed in smaller patterns. Light shielding layers 14 made of metal are formed in the positions corresponding to the colored layers in the peripheral part E on an element substrate 10.
