To provide a liquid crystal display device with which an increase reflection effect by a low refractive index dielectric film and a high refractive index dielectric film can be sufficiently exhibited.
The liquid crystal display device is constituted by joining a driving substrate 14 arrayed with pixel electrodes 12 and driving circuits for driving the pixel electrodes in a matrix and a transparent substrate 34 formed with counter electrodes 16 by inserting a liquid crystal LC in-between in such a manner that the pixel electrodes and the counter electrodes face each other, in which dielectrics are disposed in the spacings between the pixels of the pixel electrodes; the phase difference of the height differences between the dielectrics and the pixel electrodes are kept below 0.2λ (λ: the wavelength of the reading light); and the first dielectric film and the second dielectric film having the refractive index higher than that of the first dielectric film are laminated over the entire part of the pixel area formed with the pixel electrodes. As a result, the increase reflection effect is created at the use wavelength.
