To provide a liquid crystal display device for portable device which can effectively utilize light from a light source.
A liquid crystal monitor 20 is equipped with a light guide plate 31, light source units 25, 27 and a holder 30 to hold them. The light source unit 25 is arranged in the vicinity of a light incident face 31a of the light guide plate 31 and illuminates a liquid crystal panel 23. The light source unit 27 is arranged in the vicinity of a light incident face 31b and emits light emitted by an LED 50 from a light emitting face 51c. The light source unit 27 is held with the holder 30 so as to be freely rotatable. When the light source unit 27 is rotated so as to make the light emitting face 51c opposed to the light incident face 31b, the liquid crystal panel 23 is illuminated and when the light emitting face 51c is aimed at a subject, the subject is illuminated.
