To obtain a liquid crystal display device of which the display quality is not deteriorated even in the case the liquid crystal display panel and an electroluminescence(EL) light emitting element are designed to be placed close to each other or under high temperature environment and which is strong against mechanical shock.
In a liquid crystal display device utilizing an EL light emitting element 20 as a backlight for a liquid crystal display panel 10, the liquid crystal display panel 10 and the EL light emitting element 20 are fixed together via a spacer 30 at an edge or two adjacent edges of peripheral parts of the liquid crystal display panel 10. Also preferably the thickness of the spacer is 50-200 μm. By constructing the device in this way, the liquid crystal display panel and the EL light emitting element are not brought into contact with each other even in the case the liquid crystal display panel 10 and the EL light emitting element 20 are left standing under high temperature environment.
