To provide a liquid crystal display device which has high luminance and in which unevenness of luminance is not present and which is capable of adjusting coloring of display colors.
This liquid crystal display device is provided with a liquid crystal display element 1 and a directly under type illuminator in which main light sources 2 are arranged direct under the liquid crystal display element 1 and a light reflecting plate 3 reflecting light beams from the main light sources 2 is arranged at the back of the main light sources 2. In this case, an auxiliary light source means 10 is provided direct under the light source 2. Moreover, the means 10 is provided with a light guide plate 7 and an auxiliary light source 6 which is provided at least at one side of the light guide plate 7. Thus, a picture display which is of uniform and in which unevenness of luminance is not present becomes possible.
