To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing the deterioration in image quality due to movement blur by providing a black display period in one frame period of an input image signal, and capable of compensating the response characteristic of a liquid crystal to realize high-quality image display by applying proper emphasis conversion to the image signal.
The liquid crystal device is characterized by comprising: a frame frequency converting means for repeatedly outputting the image signal whose vertical display period is compressed to 1/N by converting the frame frequency of the input image signal into N times; a black insertion means for inserting the black display signal into at least an N-th vertical display period in one frame period of the input image signal; and emphasis converting means for obtaining an emphasis converting signal with which a liquid crystal display panel reaches transmittance defined by the image signal after one vertical display period elapses.
