To solve such problems that in a backlight using a light emitting diode as a light source, brightness varies by changes in the temperature of the element and the dynamic range of the white balance is narrowed.
A display device includes a backlight 3, a photosensor 5, a liquid crystal panel 1 and a control circuit unit 61. The device functions to compute the pulse width modulation ratio information to control the light emission of the backlight based on a detection signal from the photosensor, correct the pulse width modulation ratio information based on the light emission peak quantity extracted from the detection signal of the photosensor, and feedback control the backlight based on the pulse width modulation ratio information. Even when the maximum light emission intensity of the light emitting diode changes, the emission is corrected and controlled, and thereby, prevent the dynamic range of the white balance from being narrowed.
