To provide a reflective or transflective liquid crystal display device having a light-reflecting layer, the liquid crystal display device being inexpensive and excellent in controllability of liquid crystal layer thickness.
The liquid crystal display device has a wrinkle-like concavo-convex layer 6 having a surface of a wrinkle-like concavo-convex feature, formed to follow a concavo-convex controlling structure 8 on a glass substrate 3. The liquid crystal display device has a plurality of holding projections 10 formed as protruding from a counter glass substrate 5 and holding a predetermined gap between the substrates 3, 5. By forming the holding projections 10 having approximately the same length at a predetermined interval in contact with the tops of convex portions of the wrinkle-like concavo-convex layer 6, the thickness of a liquid crystal layer 12 can be easily controlled to the thickness of a design value.
