The total of retardation Rth rear (λ) and retardation Rth front (λ) in the thickness direction of the retardation region is within a range capable of compensating Δnd (λ) in the black state, and satisfies front-member scattering intensity≤1/38,000. The rear-member scattering intensity, Rth front (λ), and Rth rear(λ) the following relationship (1) or (2): (1) rear-member scattering intensity>front-member scattering intensity and Rth front (λ)>Rth rear (λ); (2) rear-member scattering intensity<front-member scattering intensity and Rth front (λ)<Rth rear (λ).
