To prevent light leakage from occurring in the vicinity of a spacer in a liquid crystal display device.
The liquid crystal display device includes a strut formed on the liquid crystal surface side of one substrate of respective substrates placed opposite to each other via a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal display device further includes: a switching element actuated with a scanning signal from a gate signal line; a pixel electrode supplied with a video signal from a drain signal line via the switching element; and a counter electrode formed on a layer above the pixel electrode via the pixel electrode and an insulating film, in a pixel region which is a region surrounded by the gate signal lines arranged adjacent to each other and the drain signal lines arranged adjacent to each other on the liquid crystal surface side of the other substrate, wherein the pixel electrode has partially an extended portion extended to the upper layer of the gate signal line, and the top face of the strut is placed so as to be opposite to the gate signal line and the extended portion of the pixel electrode.
