Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2011154281
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To solve the problems with a conventional liquid crystal display device employing an FFS system, wherein the width of a gap or a branched electrode of an upper electrode in a pixel relates to an electric field intensity applied to a liquid crystal layer and exerts an effect on light transmittance, and dimensional variation in an array fabrication process such as exposure and etching of an upper electrode is easily visually recognized as display unevenness of the liquid crystal display device.

The pixel 30 of a liquid crystal display device 100 includes a scan line 2, a signal line 5, a TFT, a lower electrode 6, and an upper electrode 8 arranged thereon with a protective film 7 interposed therebetween, in which the upper electrode 8 includes a plurality of branch electrodes 82 electrically connected in common, and a gap 81 between the branch electrodes 82. The upper electrode 8 includes regions S in which the ratio R (=C/W) of the width C of the gap 81 to the width W of the branch electrode 82 adjacent to the gap differs, and includes both of a region S in which the light transmittance T increases and a region S in which the light transmittance decreases with respect to changes in the ratio R due to dimensional variation.
