Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2012203117
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To improve transmittance in a liquid crystal display device by reducing the number of wires for sending a driving signal to sub-pixels.

A liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel 2 where a plurality of sub-pixels are arranged in row and column directions and one pixel is constituted by color mixture of 4 red, green, blue, and white sub-pixels R, G, B, and W in two rows and in two columns; and a signal control unit which generates a driving signal for sub-pixels. The signal control unit generates the driving signal so that each of pixels Q(1,1), Q(1,2) to Q(n,m) is constituted of a quartet of sub-pixels in two rows and two columns, which overlaps with adjacent quartets of sub-pixels by one row and one column in row and column directions, and reproduces each pixel of image information. The required numbers of sub-pixels in row and column directions are the numbers obtained by adding one to the numbers of pixels to be displayed in row and column direction, so that the number of wires can be considerably reduced. Since the number of wires which is a factor to reduce transmittance can be reduced, the transmittance of the liquid crystal panel is easily improved.
