A liquid crystal display device has a color filter with a coloring layer, a liquid crystal cell, and a pair of polarizing plates disposed on both sides of the liquid crystal cell. The color filter is disposed on one side of either of the pair of polarizing plates, which is the opposite side of the liquid crystal cell side.
