A liquid crystal display device comprises: a first substrate AR provided with a pixel electrode PE including a contact portion PC, main pixel electrodes PA extending in a second direction Y crossing a first direction X, from positions between the two ends of the contact portion PC in the first direction X; a second substrate CT provided with a common electrode CE that includes main common electrodes CA placed to have the main pixel electrodes PA therebetween and extending in substantially parallel with the main pixel electrodes PA, and sub-common electrodes extending to connect the main common electrodes CA and placed between the pixel electrodes PE arranged in the second direction Y; and a liquid crystal layer LQ held between the first substrate AR and the second substrate CT and having liquid crystal molecules LM.
