Abstract:
To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing degradation in image quality and a method for driving the device, and to provide a liquid crystal display device performing image display that can be recognized in accordance with the environment of the device regardless of the conditions of the environment such as a bright environment or a dim environment, or capable of performing image display both in a reflective mode using external light as an illumination light source and in a transmissive mode using a light source.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal element having a pixel part 412 having a first region and a second region, and a plurality of light sources 407, in which transmittance in the first region and the second region is controlled according to a voltage of an input image signal; and a transistor for controlling retention of a voltage. Upon displaying a full-color image, light beams in different colors are sequentially supplied, following a first rotation, to the first area from the light source 407, while light beams in different colors are sequentially supplied, following a second rotation that is different from the first rotation, to the second area. Displaying a monochromatic image is performed by reflecting external light in a reflection area possessed by a pixel electrode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
