Abstract:
PURPOSE:To easily control input signal voltage, to simplify a driving circuit and to accomplish multi-level graduation display with good reproducibility by impressing the voltage in a specific stage on liquid crystal so that the gradation may be controlled. CONSTITUTION:Since a distance between a 1st picture element electrode 6 and a 2nd picture element electrode 7 is different in each one picture element 3, for example, an area where threshold voltage with which the liquid crystal is inverted in one picture element 3 is different is obtained. The voltage of a transition area where the liquid crystal is not inverted completely is not impressed on the liquid crystal but the area of a part where the liquid crystal is inverted completely in one picture element 3 is controlled with the input signal voltage in the specified stage so as to perform the multi-level graduation display. Thus, the input signal voltage is easily controlled and the driving circuit for a liquid crystal display device is simplified. The state of the liquid crystal is stable because it is either the state where the liquid crystal is inverted or the state where the liquid crystal is not inverted in the respective areas in one picture element 3, thereby accomplishing the multi-level graduation display with good reproducibility.
