Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce damage of a transparent electrode caused by a mechanical force or a thermal factor by extending a color filter and a top coat to a lead electrode part outside a seal member to be in contact with a driving circuit substrate. CONSTITUTION:Stripe patterns of R, G and B are formed on a lower substrate by a printing method to have a color filter 3. Formation of the color filter is executed till an overlapping part of an upper substrate 9 and the lower substrate 1, that is, a display zone, a formation point of a seal 8 and a formation point of a lead electrode 2a. The pitch and width of the color filter is 110mum and 90mum, respectively. After printing and hardening of the color filter, a top coat layer 4 made of an acrylic resin is formed with the thickness of about 2mum over the almost entire surface of the lower substrate 1. A transparent electrode 2 and the lead electrode 2a are formed by photolithography by forming an ITO film of about 2,000Angstrom on the top coat layer with a low temperature spatter method. After that, an orientation film 5 of polyimide is applied and burned, and a rubbing treatment is given so as to make a cell.
