On a counter substrate 102, a light reflecting layer 124 is formed and on the inside surface of an active matrix substrate 101, polarizing layers 106 and 107 with a polarized light selecting function and a phase difference layer 108 with a phase difference giving function are formed. The polarizing layers 106 and 107 and phase difference layer 108 function as an inter-layer insulating film, which electrically insulates a gate signal wire 104, etc., and a pixel electrode 112. The axes of polarization of the polarizing layers 106 and 107 cross each other at right angles, and then correspond to pixels for the right eye and pixels for the left eye, respectively. The phase difference layer 108 includes an area 109 which does not have a phase difference giving function and an area 110, which has the phase difference giving function, and those are arranged corresponding to the polarizing layers 106 and 107 respectively.
