To provide the device which can make light both a display using external light and a display using the light from a light source and makes a display of good quality with high front luminance and small parallax irrelevantly to which of the external light and the light from the light source is used as a liquid crystal display device which makes both the displays.

In the front side of a liquid crystal display element 10 equipped with a reflecting means 20, a light guide plate 30 is arranged which makes the external light from the front and the light of the light source 32 from an end surface incident on the liquid crystal display element 10 and projects light from the liquid crystal display element 10 on the front, a reflection type display is made without reference to which of the external light and the light from the light source is used to make it possible to use a reflecting means 20 which reflects the incident light with a high reflection factor, and the reflecting means 20 is allowed to reflect light which is made incident obliquely to the vertical almost to the said vertical direction.
