Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS56155921
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a matrix type liq. crystal display device capable of being driven at low voltage and having high contrast and superior responding properties by superposing ≥2 liq. crystal display panels having the same structure and driving them according to the same signal.

CONSTITUTION: A liq. crystal display panel is formed by setting a substrate having scanning electrodes and a substrate having signal electrodes opposite to each other so that both the electrodes meet at right angles and holding a liq. crystal between the substrates. Such liq. crystal display panels 1, 2 are superposed so that the image element parts each of which is the crossed part of both the electrodes overlap with each other. Each output X1WXn of scanning section 3 is then connected to each corresponding scanning electrode of panels 1, 2, and each output Y1WYn of signal section 4 to each corresponding signal electrode. Thus, a display device is formed. The contrast of the device is made equal to the total contrast of panels 1, 2, yet the required voltage is equal to that of one panel. Accordingly, this device can be driven at low voltage. By increasing the number of panels, the effect is improved furthermore.
