PURPOSE: To increase a write speed by multiplexing laser light beams from two laser light sources through a polarization beam splitter while deviating them by an angle Δθ between the optical axes, and writing a display image of two scanning lines in one scanning period at a time.
CONSTITUTION: The laser light sources 21 and 31 output laser light beams modulated with a video signal, etc., and they are collimated 22 and 32 by lenses and converted by prisms 23 and 33 from elliptic light beams to circular light beams, which are made incident on the polarization beam splitter 40 as S polarized light and P polarized light. The multiplexing output of the splitter 40 has a deviation of the angle Δθ by shifting the light source 21. The two deviated laser light beams are scanned by a scanner 50 with a horizontal and a vertical synchronizing signal relating to a modulated signal ane focused on a liquid-crystal cell 70 at an interval f.Δθ through a lens 60 with focal length (f). Coloring matter which absorbs maximal-wavelength components of the laser light beams 21 and 31 are added to the liquid crystal. Consequently, the output of the laser light sources 22 and 31 are scanned on the liquid-crystal cell 70 in one scanning period to increase the write speed.
