Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT USING OPTICALLY ANISOTROPIC ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3699160
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display element which remarkably improves the deterioration of a picture, such as the degradation of contrast, gradation reversal, color tone change, caused by visual angles while maintaining the front contrast.
CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal element is constituted by arranging a liquid crystal cell, two pieces of polarizing element, each arranged on both end, and at least one piece of optically anisotropic element having a layer contg. liquid crystalline high-polymer between the liquid crystal cell and polarizing element. The optical tilt angle of the liquid crystalline high-polymer is continuously changing in the layer thickness direction, and the direction, in which the absolute value of retardation of the optically anisotropic element is the minimum, is neither in the normal line nor plane directions of the film, and the angle formed by a direction, in which the above-mentioned direction is orthogonally projected on a liquid crystal cell board, and the rubbing direction of the liquid crystal cell board close to the optically anisotropic element, is 90 to 270°.
