Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of a point defect due to the bubbling of the dissolved gas in a liq. crystal cell at low temp. or when a mechanical impact is exerted.
CONSTITUTION: A sealant 14 consisting of an epoxy adhesive is printed on one of the oriented transparent substrates 11 on which a transparent electrode 12 and an oriented film 13 are formed, a spacer 15 consisting of polystyrene beads is sprinkled over the other substrate, then a gas adsorbent 16 consisting of polystyrene porous grains is sprinkled, and the substrates are opposed and stuck to each other. A liq. crystal 17 is injected from the injection port between the substrates 11 and sealed by a sealant 18. The dissolved gas in the liq. crystal is adsorbed by the adsorbent 16, and bubbles are hardly generated even at low temp. or when a mechanical impact is exerted.
