Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3308863
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new mode liquid crystal display element having a response speed of a TN mode or above and a wide visual angle.
SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer 10 consisting of nematic liquid crystal material or the liquid crystal layer 10 consisting of chiral nematic liquid crystal material showing positive dielectric anisotropy is formed between a pair of substrates 13, 14 having electrodes applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer 10. When the voltage of a threshold voltage Vth1 or above is applied to this liquid crystal cell, a liquid crystal molecule 10a becomes a twisted vertically oriented state or the vertically aligned state, and thereafter, when the applied voltage is made the threshold voltage Vth2 (Vth1<Vth2 (minute voltage)), the liquid crystal molecule 10a becomes a twisted horizontally aligned state. The liquid crystal display element is formed by using the aligned states of these two liquid crystal molecules 10a.
