Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a film compensation type liquid crystal display element excellent in contrast over a wide temp. range and unchangeable in back ground color by superposing and using a specific 1st and a 2nd high polymer film.
CONSTITUTION: At least one sheet of the 1st high polymer film 19 having -50 to 90°C transition point (hereafter, called as sub-transition point) based on the movement of the side chain or the local movement of the main chain and at least one sheet of the 2nd high polymer film 18 having no sub-transition point in the range of -50 to 90°C are superposed and used as an optical phase different plate for compensating the double refraction of a liquid crystal layer. In this case, polyethylene, acrylics, polyester film, polyether, polystyrene, polyvinyl alcohol and polypropylene having ring structure in the side chain are exemplified as the polymer suitably used for the 1st high polymer film 19, and polycarbonate, polyimide, polysulfone and the like are exemplified concretely as the polymer suitably used for the 2nd high polymer film 18.
