Abstract:
PURPOSE:To allow the control of an orientation state and to provide the liquid crystal display element adaptable to a display method requiring a memory characteristic as well by forming the oriented films of the liquid crystal display element by using a polymer having a fluorine-contained aliphat. cyclic structure. CONSTITUTION:Films 5, 6 consisting of the polymer having the fluorine- contained aliphat. cyclic structure is provided at the boundary between substrates 1, 2 with electrodes and liquid crystal of the liquid crystal display element formed by crimping the liquid crystal layer between a pair of the substrates 1 and 2 with the electrodes. Particularly the polymer having the fluorine-contained aliphat. cyclic structure is the polymer having a cyclic structure in the main chain obtd. by cyclization polymn. The oriented films of the liquid crystal display element are formed by using the polymer having such fluorine-contained aliphat. cyclic structure as the material, by which the production of the liquid crystal display element by selecting the various orientation states from the perpendicular orientation to the homogeneous orientation is enabled. The liquid crystal display element to which the memory characteristic is liable to be imparted is obtd. in this way and further, the liquid crystal display element having a high contrast and good display grade is obtd.
