Abstract:
To provide a display element using liquid crystal indicating a cholesteric phase at a room temperature, capable of improving contrast in single color display and black-and-white display.
A composite film 18 composed of the liquid crystal indicating the cholestric phase at the room temperature and resin is clamped by two substrates 11 and 12 through a spacer 15. By turning a voltage ON/OFF between transparent electrodes 13 and 14, the liquid crystal is switched between a planar state and a focal conic state and display is performed. As for droplets 17 in which the liquid crystal is confined, the ones whose diameter is not less than 10 μm and less than 30 μm are contained by more than 50%.
