Abstract:
PURPOSE: To eliminate display inversion and to improve visual angle characteristics by constituting an oriented film of two kinds of regions varying in dielectric constant from each other or two kinds of regions varying in film thickness.
CONSTITUTION: The material prepd. by mixing a specific amt. of a flat material into an oriented film material is applied on a glass substrate 11 by transfer printing and is baked, by which the first regions 16 consisting of only the oriented film 12 and the second regions 17 contg. the flat material 18 are evenly dispersed and formed in such a manner that the ratio thereof attains approximately 1:1. The surfaces of the oriented films 12, 14 of the glass substrates 11, 13 are then subjected to rubbing treatments and thereafter, the glass substrate 11 and the glass substrate 13 are stuck to each other via spacers and liquid crystals 15 are sealed therebetween. In such a case, the flat material 18 of the low dielectric constant and the thin oriented film material thereon exist in the second regions 17, by which the effective voltage impressed on the liquid crystals 15 is made substantially lower than the effective voltage of the first regions 16 and the averaged transmittance-voltage characteristics free from humps as the whole of pixel are obtained.
