Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve transmissivity for blue light by specifying the product of the optical anisotropy value of a liquid crystal material and the distance between substrates. CONSTITUTION:On a blue plate glass 1, there are formed an ITO thin film 2 of 1200Angstrom thickness, electrode and lead wires to obtain a first substrate 8. A second substrate 9 is also prepared by providing an electrode and lead wires 4 on a glass, further providing a polyimide film of 800Angstrom thickness thereon by printing, calcining this film, and providing an orienting means 5 for a liquid crystal compsn. After an epoxy adhesive 7 is provided around the first substrate 8 by printing and silica particles 6 having 4.2mum particle size are dispersed by 200 particles/1mm<2> on the second substrate 9, the two substrates are adhered. Then a liquid crystal compsn. 10 showing ferroelectricity is supplied and sealed between these substrates 8, 9. The optical anisotropy value n of the liquid crystal compsn. is 0.14, and thereby, the product of the optical anisotropy value n and thickness alpha, 0.14X4.2=588mum, is in the range from 500-650nm.
