Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTROOPTIC ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02166420
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent light from leaking between transparent electrodes and to improve display characteristics by providing light shielding bodies made of metal on one substrate at the parts corresponding to the parts between the transparent electrodes when the substrate is assembled on transparent electrodes of the other substrate. CONSTITUTION:On the substrates 11 and 12 made of glass, ITO is patterned in stripes by photolithography to form the transparent electrodes 13 and 14. Then the respective electrodes are plated with nickel by electroless plating and when the substrates 11 and 12 are assembled, the nickel is left by photolithography at the parts corresponding to the parts between the transparent electrodes of the substrates to form the light shielding bodies 15. Further, an orienting film for liquid crystal is formed thereupon and rubbed to assemble liquid crystal cells, and ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal is enclosed. Consequently, the liquid crystal electrooptic element is nearly free from light leak between transparent electrodes and have excellent contrast characteristics.
