Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display element excellent in fast display property in which visual angle characteristics in the display contrast and the display colors can be improved without decreasing the front-view contrast.
SOLUTION: This liquid crystal element consists of a liquid crystal cell comprising two electrode substrates and a liquid crystal between the substrates, two polarizing elements on both sides of the cell, and at least one optical anisotropic element between the liquid crystal cell and the polarizing element. In this case, the optical anisotropic element has a layer containing a liquid crystal polymer. The direction of the optical anisotropic element which gives the min. absolute value of retardation is not the normal direction nor the plane direction of the film. The liquid crystal cell consists of a bend orientation liquid crystal cell or a HAN liquid crystal cell including a liquid crystal cell having twisted orientation in the center part of the cell.
