Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce flicker at the time of stereoscopic image reproducing by combining liquid crystal element plates and polarizing plates to constitute shutters having the two-layered liquid crystal structure and opening and closing surely these liquid crystal shutters alternately synchronously with switching between right and left images on a monitor screen.

CONSTITUTION: The first polarizing plates 3a and 3b, the first liquid crystal element plates 4a and 4b, the second polarizing plates 5a and 5b, the second liquid crystal element plates 6a and 6b, and the third polarizing plates 7a and 7b are arranged in order in liquid crystal shutters 1a and 1b respectively. Shutters 1a and 1b are in the open state when an electric field having a prescribed value or larger, namely, a driving voltage is applied to the first liquid crystal element plates 4a and 4b and the second liquid crystal element plates 6a and 6b are in the non-electric field state, and shutters 1a and 1b are in the close state when the first liquid crystal element plates 4a and 4b are in the non-electric field state and the driving voltage is applied to the second liquid crystal element plates 6a and 6b. Driving voltages opposite in phase to each other are applied to right and left liquid crystal shutters 1a and 1b, respectively.
