PURPOSE: To provide the third order surface liquid crystal light controlling element which scarcely generates a wrinkle in its peripheral edge end part, even if it is laminated with third order surface glass.
CONSTITUTION: In a liquid crystal light controlling element 3, a liquid crystal layer is inserted and held between a pair of resin films 31, 32 in which an electrode is formed on the inside surface opposed to each other, respectively. When this liquid crystal light controlling element 3 is laminated with a pair of glass substrates 1 through a resin middle film, notch parts 31a, 32a are formed in the part in which a distortion works concentrically and a wrinkle is apt to be generated, that is, in the peripheral edge end part of the resin films 31, 32.
