Abstract:

To provide a liquid crystal medium for MLC, TN, or STN displays that are preferred to have a very high specific resistance and low threshold voltage.

The liquid crystal medium is based on a mixture of polar compounds having a positive dielectric anisotropy and contains one or more kinds of fluorophenyl cyclohexene derivatives represented by formula I [wherein R denotes H or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aklenyl group having upto 18 carbon atoms, ring A is represented by formula , X denotes CN or Q-Y (where Y denotes H, F, or Cl and Q denotes a linear divalent bond or a single bond having a carbon atom), m is 0 or 1, and n is 0, 1, or 2].
