PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. crystal medium which is based on a mixture of polar compds. having positive dielectric anisotropies and is used for an MCL, TN, or STN display pref. having a high specific resistance and a low threshold value by incorporating a fluorophenylcyclohexene deriv. into the same.
CONSTITUTION: This liq. crystal medium is based on a mixture of polar compds. having positive dielectric anisotropies and contains at least one fluorophenylcyclohexene deriv. of formula I [R is H or an up to 18C unsubstd. alkyl or alkenyl group provided one of these groups or two or more CH2 groups not adjacent to each other may be substd. by a group or groups selected from among -O-, -S-, -CO-, etc.; ring A is a group represented by formula II, III, IV, or V; X is CN or Q-Y (Y is H, F, or Cl; and Q is -CF2-, -CHF-, etc.); m is 0 or 1; and n is 0, 1, or 2].
