PURPOSE: To color the background of a mirror surface in nonglaring mode and obtain an easy-to-see image because of no cloudiness by providing a scatter type liquid-crystal cell and a color filter element which allows more light of a specific color to pass in nonglaring mode.
CONSTITUTION: The scatter type liquid crystal cell 10 and color filter element 7 are arrayed in the internal cavity part of a frame 1 and the liquid-crystal cell 10 has a couple of parallel transparent glass substrates 2b and 2c supported by spacers 6a and 6b. A voltage is applied to the scatter type liquid crystal cell 10 and color filter element in nonglaring mode. Liquid crystal in the scatter type liquid-crystal cell 10 causes a dynamic scatter and the guest-host liquid crystal in the color filter element 7 is oriented in parallel. Consequently, transmitted light becomes colored light to color the dynamic scatter liquid crystal at the back. Consequently, the background of the mirror surface in nonglaring mode is made drak and such effect that an image is easy to see is obtained because of no clouidness.
