A λ/4 plate 20, polarizing plate 30, λ/4 plate 40, light emitting layer 50 and reflection layer 60 are laminated on the rear surface side of a liquid crystal panel 1. The λ/4 plate 20 and the polarizing plate 30 form a circularly polarizing plate and the angle formed by the delay phase axis of the λ/4 plate 20 and the absorption axis of the polarizing plate 30 is set at +45° or -45° in such a manner the circularly polarized light made incident on the liquid crystal panel 1 from the light emitting layer 50 side turns to the circularly polarized light of the direction where the chiral nematic liquid crystals are selectively reflected.
