Title:
LIQUID CRYSTAL OPTICAL ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3736605
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element which has a memory characteristic and has no dependence on wavelengths relating to reflected light and transmitted light.
SOLUTION: A liquid crystal layer 10 constituted by including a plurality of microcapsules which indicate the change in the selective reflection reacting with the electric field applied between transparent electrodes 2 and another electrodes 2 and is sealed with the liquid crystal having the memory characteristic is formed between the transparent electrodes 2 and another electrodes 2. The liquid crystal layer 10 is composed of the microcapsules 4L and 4R sealed therein with either of two kinds of the liquid crystals which are the same in the selective reflection wavelength but reflect the laterally reverse circularly polarized light. The microcapsules 4L and 4R are included in the liquid crystal layer in plural pieces each at a ratio of nearly 1:1 in the thickness direction of the liquid crystal layer and the direction orthogonal therewith.
