In the liquid crystal panel comprising a liquid crystal held between at least a pair of substrates with attached electrodes and with a formed film, which vertically aligns the liquid crystal, a convex insulation layer 2 is formed on at least one of the substrates and an electrode is formed on the insulation layer 2. Thereby, white display is obtained because a sufficient electric field is applied to liquid crystal molecules 5. Also, the aperture ratio is widened because the electrode is formed on the insulation layer 2 and moreover, the brightness is improved. Also, by using the insulation layer 2 for improving the aperture ratio as the insulation layer 2 for tilting the liquid crystal molecules 5, the manufacturing steps are reduced.
