Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attain the higher brightness of a display screen and the image display of a high contrast without using polarizing plates for a liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:A diffraction grating 15 is formed by using the material of a high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal 18. This diffraction grating 15, etc., are formed by applying a resin contg. the liquid crystal on a counter electrode substrate 17 and bringing a mold plate into tight contact therewith, then impressing a magnetic field thereto to orient and fix the liquid crystal. The refractive index of the diffraction grating 15 is set equal to the ordinary light refractive index of the high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal 18. A difference in the refractive index arises between the liquid crystal 18 and the diffraction grating 15 when a voltage is not impressed to the liquid crystal 18. The incident light on the liquid crystal 18 is then diffracted and scattered by the liquid crystal 18. The rectilinear light is, therefore, extremely diminished. There is no difference in the refractive index any more between the liquid crystal 18 and the diffraction grating 15 and the incident light advances rectilinearly when the voltage is not impressed to the liquid crystal 18.
