PURPOSE: To prevent colors on the peripheral part of a screen from being uneven.

CONSTITUTION: Light from a light source 1 is converted into parallel beams by a reflector 2 and spectrally divided by dichroic mirrors 3 to 5. The divided light beams are converged through converging condenser lenses 6 to 8 and respective liquid crystal panels 9 to 11 acting as light bulbs are respectively irradiated with the converged beams. Then a color image is projected to a screen through projection lenses 12 to 14. The focal distances of the lenses 6 to 8 are respectively different correspondingly to respective optical path lengths from the light source 1 up to respective lenses 6 to 8.
